description
an analysis of outdoor play spaces that
explores play arenas that exist on the cusp of land and water. These locations demand players oscillate between land + water, grass + mud, high elevation + low, each environmental transition facilitating a shift in movement or change in how people interact. This project maps the binary oppositions apparent in the play environment, objects, interactions, and movements of players, and then locates play as the ever changing, self-chosen points within these spectrums. The objects here, meant to act as a pair of levers, communicate a few of these binaries. By tilting and turning them, users playfully explore the transitional space between slow + fast, quiet + loud, together + separate.
